Leo Speidel is a Group Leader at RIKEN, specializing in statistical and population genetics. They completed a DPhil in Statistical and Population Genetics at the University of Oxford from 2015 to 2019, following a Master's degree from The University of Tokyo. Prior to their current role, Leo was a Sir Henry Wellcome fellow at UCL and the Francis Crick Institute from 2020 to 2024 and worked as a Research Assistant on the ERATO Kawarabayashi Large Graph Project at the National Institute of Informatics in Japan from 2014 to 2015. Leo also holds a BSc from Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München, obtained between 2010 and 2013.
