Carlos Viquez

Carlos Viquez is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in functional safety and systems engineering, currently serving as a Senior Functional Safety Engineer at Rio Tinto since May 2018, focusing on the implementation of the D7 Functional Safety standard in Autonomous Mining Technologies and Heavy Mobile Equipment. Prior to this role, Carlos held positions including Senior Systems Engineer and Sr Controls & Automation Engineer at SPIE Plexal, where responsibilities included leading the functional safety framework and ensuring control systems reliability. Carlos began a career in engineering at Intel Corporation as a Project Engineer and further developed business acumen as a Sales Engineer at Siemens Industry. Academically, Carlos holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Edith Cowan University, a Master of Science in Telecommunications from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, and a Bachelor of Engineering from Tecnológico de Costa Rica.
