A foremost social enterprise entrepreneur, Dr. Gerald Nebeker founded RISE in 1987, Acumen in 1995 and Orange Socks in 2016, all with the purpose of supporting and advocating for people with disabilities. With a Ph.D. in Human Services, Management of Nonprofit Organizations, Dr. Nebeker has served on multiple local and national nonprofit boards, including RISE, since 2010. As his most important accomplishments, he has been married to his wonderful wife, Laurel, for more than 32 years and has eight terrific children, the youngest of whom has Down Syndrome.

Our mission at RISE, Inc. is to Create Opportunities for and with People. This mission statement encompasses not only the individuals and families for whom we provide services and supports to, but also employees and stakeholders. RISE believes in the individuals, families and employees who are part of our organization and that opportunities can and should be created through all of our actions. We are guided by this mission and utilize it in meetings, conversations, and decision making. It is more than something we say or put on a website; it embodies our purpose.
