Betsey DePoint has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Betsey started their career in 1976 as a Public Affairs Sergeant Major in the US Army Reserve, where they served until 2004. In 1977, they joined Rise, Inc as the Director of Public Relations. In 2002, they also served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army Reserve (Active) 318th Press Camp Headquarters. Additionally, in 2003, they worked at CPIC Kuwait as a Sergeant Major, where they played a key role in managing day-to-day operations and supporting international journalists covering Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq.

Betsey DePoint completed their education at the Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison in 1977. Betsey attained a degree as a DINFOS Trained Killer, specializing in public affairs as a journalist. Their field of study during this time was print journalism.

Prior to their attendance at the defense school, Betsey attended the University of Minnesota's School of Journalism and Mass Communication from 1972 to 1976. Betsey obtained a bachelor's degree with a focus on journalism, specifically in the field of news editorial.
