Diahann Billings-Burford has a diverse and extensive work experience. Diahann is currently the CEO of RISE, where they lead a team of over 20 employees and focuses on positioning RISE as a national leader in improving race relations in America. Diahann also aims to develop sustainable funding sources for the organization.

Prior to their role at RISE, Diahann served as a Member of the Board of Directors at Strava since 2021. Before that, they worked at Time Warner Inc. as the Executive Director of Cultural Investments from 2014 to 2018, overseeing the grant making and operations of the Time Warner Foundation.

Diahann has also held significant positions in public service. Diahann served as the Chief Service Officer at NYC Service from 2009 to 2014, where they created and implemented initiatives to engage New Yorkers in service and promote service as a core part of citizenship. Additionally, they were the Deputy Executive Director of External Affairs at City Year New York from 2006 to 2009, leading the organization's recruitment efforts and managing government relations.

Earlier in their career, Diahann worked at Achievement First as the Director of External Relations for New York, overseeing event management, grant writing, and public relations. Diahann also held various roles at Prep for Prep, including Director of Leadership Development and Director of College Guidance.

Diahann's professional journey began as a Litigation Associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. Diahann holds a wealth of experience and expertise in various sectors, demonstrating their commitment to creating positive change in society.

Diahann Billings-Burford began their education by attending Poly Prep Country Day School from 1986 to 1990. Diahann then further pursued their studies at Yale University from 1990 to 1994, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology. Continuing their education, Billings-Burford attended Columbia Law School from 1999 to 2002, and successfully obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree.

RISE

RISE is a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations. Through partnerships and programs, we inspire leaders in sports to create positive change on matters of race and equality. RISE provides: Leadership programming for student-athletes, coaches and administrators at every level to equip them with the knowledge and skills to stand up against racism and advance the conversation around race relations. Opportunities for athletes to amplify their voice and make a difference as effective advocates to stand up against racism and promote social change. Events for fans in conjunction with college and pro sports games and public awareness campaigns encouraging the public to join with professional athletes and community leaders in taking a pledge to stand against racism.
