Kimberly Carmody

Executive Director at River Gallery School of Art

Kimberly Carmody serves as the Executive Director at River Gallery School of Art since September 2023, marking a return to a significant part of Kimberly's life after attending the school as a child. Previously, Kimberly worked at The River Gallery School from January 2020 to March 2024 as a Teaching Faculty member, co-teaching Sequencing Teacher Trainer Workshops. At High Meadows School, Kimberly held the role of Arts Coordinator and Art Educator from August 2019 to March 2024, overseeing various arts programs and co-founding the Meadow MoCA initiative. Kimberly also founded HeART with Kimberly, offering art classes during the pandemic, and served as Dean and Middle School Art Teacher at Berkeley Carroll School from September 2008 to June 2019. As the Executive and Creative Director of Urban River Arts from 2009 to 2014, Kimberly focused on community-based artistic development. Kimberly holds a Master's degree in Art Teacher Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a Certificate in Painting and Sculpture from The New York Studio School, and a Bachelor of Arts in Painting from The Evergreen State College.

For more than 45 years, River Gallery School has been offering workshops, classes and experiences for everyone who wants to make art and explore their creativity. We have programs for all ages, including weekly classes and 1-2 day workshops. Our teaching artists work in a variety of visual media, including all types of painting, drawing, printmaking and encaustics. We believe that everyone can benefit from creative expression, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive art making community, with a variety of experiences designed for equity, access and inclusion. Our programs are offered in our studios, online and in regional offsite venues, with classes and workshops offered days and evenings, weekdays and weekends. Our Vision River Gallery School of Art envisions a world where creativity and its expression are important parts of one’s life, and where societies value the arts and the diversity of cultures and experiences they represent. Our Mission River Gallery School’s mission is to foster an inclusive art making community where people are able to realize their creative capabilities and express themselves fully.
