The firm was founded in 2005, with a history that dates back to 1998, by a team previously employed by Commonwealth Trust Company and SMC Capital Inc., subsidiaries of Kentucky-based Commonwealth Bancshares.

As of December 31, 2022, we manage more than $10.2 B in total assets* for a diverse mix of institutional clients.  We offer separate accounts and sub-advised collective investment vehicles that allow us to serve clients around the globe.

Our investment philosophy is based on our proprietary Absolute Value approach initially developed by the firm’s co-founders.  The objective of Absolute Value investing is to provide attractive, sustainable, low volatility returns over the long term.  At River Road, we believe integral to this objective is an emphasis on positive return consistency and, correspondingly, minimizing downside portfolio risk.
