Alex Liu, Ph.D.

Alex Liu, Ph.D. has an extensive work experience in the field of data science and analytics. In 2019, they began working as an Advisor to the Harvard Data Science Review and as Director and Chief Scientist of RMDS Lab. From 2013-2019, they held various roles at IBM, Retention Science, TRG iSKY, YapStone, Inc., ZestFinance, and Shopzilla, Inc. These roles included Thought Leader, Chief Data Scientist, Distinguished Data Scientist, Chief Data Officer, Principal Consultant on Data and Insights, Machine Learning Expert, and Lead Consultant on Business Analytics & Data Science. From 2003-2006, they were an Adjunct Professor and Consultant at UC Irvine and a Senior Advisor at the University of California, San Diego - Rady School of Management.

Alex Liu, Ph.D. began their educational journey in 1978 when they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University. Alex then went on to Peking University, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology in 1986. After completing their MA, they attended Stanford University and earned both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Statistical Computing and Sociology in 1994.
