Gareth Hughes is a seasoned political commentator with extensive experience in various leadership roles. Currently, Gareth serves as a Political Commentator for RNZ and as Director for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Aotearoa NZ. Additionally, Gareth holds the position of Chairperson at SAFE and previously contributed as a Columnist for Stuff. Between July 2021 and July 2023, Gareth was an Otago Conservation Board member at the Department of Conservation. With a background in advocacy, Gareth served as Engagement Lead for Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance and authored the biography "A Gentle Radical: the biography of Jeanette Fitzsimons." From 2010 to 2021, Gareth was a Member of Parliament and earlier worked as a Climate Campaigner for Greenpeace Aotearoa. Gareth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies and History from Victoria University of Wellington.
