Glen Scanlon has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and industries. Glen began their career as a chief reporter at Waikato Times in 2003 and later worked as a sub editor at The Guardian. In 2008, they joined CNN as a duty editor before moving to Stuff in 2009, where they served as an assistant editor and news editor. In 2014, Scanlon became the head of news and digital at Radio New Zealand. Glen then served as the chief executive officer at Broadcasting Standards Authority from 2020 to 2022. Currently, Scanlon is working as the head of transition at RNZ and as the principal adviser at VoxPop.nz.
Glen Scanlon completed a Journalism Diploma at the University of Canterbury in 1998. Prior to that, they obtained a BA, Hons degree in History from the same university between 1994 and 1997.
