Mark Stevens has extensive work experience in journalism, with a focus on news and editorial roles. Mark currently serves as the Chief News Officer at RNZ. Prior to their current role, they worked at Stuff, where they held positions such as Head of News and Editorial Director. Before joining Stuff, they worked at Fairfax Media, where they held various roles including Group Digital Editor, Editor of Stuff.co.nz, Chief reporter at The Dominion Post, Deputy chief reporter at The Dominion Post, and Crime reporter at both The Dominion Post and The Evening Post. Stevens began their career in 1997 at The Evening Post.

Mark Stevens attended Aoraki Polytechnic in 1994, where they obtained a National Certificate in Journalism. In 2010, they participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program offered by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
