Chris Shelton is an experienced professional in the fields of maintenance, security, and law enforcement. Currently serving as the Maintenance and Security Supervisor and Safety and Security Coordinator at Roanoke Higher Education Center since August 2021, Chris has a strong background in security management from prior roles as an Account Manager at Sunstates Security and a Deputy Sheriff at Henry County Sheriff's Office, where responsibilities included patrol and K9 duties. Chris's law enforcement experience is further underscored by over a decade as a Police Officer with the Town of Rocky Mount, engaging in various roles such as patrol, general investigations, and community outreach. Chris is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a Rifleman from July 2003 to November 2006, and holds an educational background from Liberty University, completing studies between 2015 and 2018.

The Roanoke Higher Education Center, which has been hailed as a model for education in the new millennium, offers over 200 programs of study through the Center’s partner organizations: Averett University, Bluefield College, James Madison University, Hollins University, Mary Baldwin College, Old Dominion University, Radford University, Roanoke College, TAP - This Valley Works, the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Western Community College. The Western Virginia Workforce Development Board is also located at the Center. In addition to the educational opportunities, RHEC offers a sophisticated and high-tech conference environment with a large 2,100-square-foot meeting room, state-of-the-art computer technology, and videoconferencing facilities that are available to support the meeting and training needs of regional businesses.
