Lead Platform Engineer at Robert Koch Institute

Jakob Kolb, PhD, has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in the fields of engineering, research, and data science. Currently, at the Robert Koch Institute, they serve as a Lead Platform Engineer, leading the redesign and migration of the institute's data and DevOps stack to a containerized cloud-ready platform. Prior to this role, they worked as a Lead Data Engineer at the same institute, where they redesigned and implemented the data stack, significantly reducing the onboarding time for new data scientists.

Before joining the Robert Koch Institute, Jakob worked as a Full Stack Engineer at Hardfork GmbH and as a Doctoral Researcher at PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, where they utilized complex network theory, stochastic processes, and statistical physics to understand complex economic systems. During their time at PIK, they also gained experience in leadership and agile management techniques.

Additionally, they have had experience as a Data Scientist/Software Developer at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, a Research Scientist at Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin, a Working Student at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, and a Summer Intern at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics.

Jakob Kolb, PhD, obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Physics of Complex Systems from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics from Universität Greifswald from 2009 to 2012. In addition to their academic achievements, they also obtained a certification as a Certified ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance in 2019.
