Mr. Sanchez is a lifelong learner and customer of education. He earned an equivalency exam high school diploma, followed by a few semesters in community college. He then attained a B.A. in art history and philosophy from the University of Hartford (‘86); a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Boston University School of Law (’90); and a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) degree in tax from Temple University School of Law (’12).
Mr. Sanchez practiced law in the private sector for 30 years. In the early ‘90s, he was an associate the Corporate Department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges (NYC office), followed by the Corporate Department of Wiggin & Dana (New Haven, CT). He spent two years working for Atlanta Graphic Solutions (an infrastructure mapping and data software startup). In 1996, Mr. Sanchez became a partner in a 2-lawyer firm in Stamford, CT, focusing on real estate, estate planning, and small business clients.
In 2013, Mr. Sanchez began serving on corporate boards. He was a director of Starz from January 2013 until December 2016, when it merged with Lionsgate Entertainment Corp. (he remained on the Lionsgate board and served on its Audit Committee until 2021). He was a director of Discovery from May 2017 to April 2022, where he served on the Finance Committee. He has been a director of Liberty Global (a European fixed and mobile telecommunications provider) since March 2022, and a director of Liberty Latin America (a Central and South American and Caribbean fixed and mobile telecommunications provider) since December 2019 (where he chairs the Nominating and Governance Committee).
In 2020, Mr. Sanchez retired from the private practice of law to increase his focus on board activity. He is a member of the Development Committee of the Board of the Smithsonian Museum of the American Latino; and was a 2021 Fellow of Latinos for Education. He is also a principal of Golden Keel, LLC, which invests in early-stage media and technology properties. He is a student of next-generation media and tech production and distribution technologies.
