Spatial Ecology Technician at Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory

Sophia Todorov has a diverse range of work experience. Sophia started their career as a Food Service Worker at UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services in February 2019. Later that year, they became a Front Desk Attendant in May and held the position until January 2020. During their time at UCLA, Sophia also worked as an Undergraduate Student Researcher in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, focusing on ecological and evolutionary research from September 2019 to March 2021.

In 2020, Sophia joined the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) as a Research Assistant, working on the long-term study of yellow-bellied marmots. Sophia collected observational and trapping data as part of Team Marmot. Additionally, they gained valuable experience in event planning and membership management as the Events & Membership Director for the Ecological Restoration Association at UCLA from May 2020 to May 2021. Prior to that role, they served as the Secretary from September 2019 to May 2020.

In 2021, Sophia interned at CalTeach, where they held two positions: Middle School Science Classroom Intern from March to June, and Pre-K Science Classroom Intern from January to March. Recently, Sophia has been involved in the Surface Atmosphere Integrated Field Laboratory (SAIL) project as a Weather Balloon Launch Technician. Sophia launches atmospheric balloons twice daily to collect data on the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere and wind characteristics.

Sophia's most recent work experience includes their current role as a Winter Caretaker/Science Support Technician at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, which they started in September 2022.

Sophia Todorov's education history begins with their high school diploma from Corona High School, which they obtained from 2014 to 2018. Sophia then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UCLA from 2018 to 2022. During their time at UCLA, they also earned minors in Geospatial Information Systems & Technologies and Conservation Biology.

In addition to their formal education, Sophia Todorov has obtained several certifications. In December 2022, they completed the AIARE Rec 1 Course from the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). In February 2020, they obtained the Institutional Official: Animal Care and Use Certification and the Wildlife Research Certification from UCLA Research Safety & Animal Welfare. Furthermore, they obtained the Remote Pilot Certificate - Part 107 from the Federal Aviation Administration in September 2022. Lastly, they also hold the Animal Research (ARC) General Certification from UCLA Research Safety & Animal Welfare, which they obtained in February 2020.
