Tom Whyte

Director at Rocky Mountain PBS

For the past twenty-five years, Tom has served as the CFO for Koelbel and Company. In his role, Tom leads Koelbel’s accounting and finance team and the family office team and is responsible for the tax structure and financing of Koelbel’s various development projects.

Now in its eighth decade, Koelbel and Company is the longest operating family-owned real estate development firm in the region. Koelbel’s three generations of leaders have made an indelible mark on Colorado through thoughtful development and corporate citizenship that supports numerous education and cultural organizations in the region. Koelbel’s slate of master planned residential and commercial communities stretch from Vail and Winter Park to Parker and Greenwood Village to Louisville and Boulder, as well as across the City of Denver proper; and now, in Omaha, Nebraska and Dallas, Texas. To help facilitate needed stability for working families, and as part of its commitment to the community, Koelbel has a mission driven passion for affordable housing - delivering more affordable rental homes than any other private

developer in the state. Recently, the company added an investment division which promises to revitalize properties well beyond Colorado’s borders. Koelbel is committed to building on their legacy for another seventy years - enhancing how residents live, work, play and recreate - in Colorado and beyond.

Prior to Koelbel, Tom worked for The Broe Group. Tom began professionally with Arthur Andersen & Co. in its Denver tax group.

Tom serves on the board of Rocky Mountain Public Media which is the parent company of Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop. Rocky Mountain Public Media is Colorado’s largest statewide, member-supported, multimedia organization.

Tom serves on the board of trustees for Carroll College located in Helena, Montana. Carroll College enjoys the distinction of holding the U.S. News and World Report rank of the #2 Regional College in the West and has been #1 or #2 for the last 12 years.

Tom served on the board of Archdiocesan Housing from 2012 to 2018, serving as its Board Chairperson for the last 2 of those years. Tom served on the board of the Brent Eley Foundation (Brent’s Place) from 2013 through 2020, serving as its Board Chairperson for the period 2018 – 2020.

Tom earned Bachelor of Science degrees in political science and accounting from Carroll College. Tom is married to Kim. Both of their adult daughters Megan and Kaitlyn live and work in the Denver Metropolitan area.
