Jerry L. Halverson

Chief Medical Officer, Rogers Behavioral Health at Rogers Behavioral Health

Jerry L. Halverson, MD, FACPsych, DFAPA, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with a subspecialty in Consult Liaison Psychiatry. He serves as chief medical officer for Rogers Behavioral Health. In this role, he is responsible for the quality of the psychiatric care provided throughout the organization and has initiated and undertaken novel models of psychiatric care measurement and standardization to help guarantee that each patient treated in the system gets the right, best care every time.

Dr. Halverson has advocated for the use of objective patient care data to improve care through his work at Rogers and with Wisconsin and national initiatives through the American Psychiatric Association (APA) , the American Medical Association (AMA) as well as other organizations. He has lectured throughout the United States on mental health and health policy issues to academic, legislative and community audiences. He has been a leader on psychiatric measurement development in the APA and the PCPI. He has been asked by CMS to participate on the Measure Development Plan Technical Expert Panel (TEP) as the psychiatric expert under MACRA/ QPP. At the PCPI, he has participated in the production of National Quality Forum (NQF) endorsed psychiatric measures and has worked with NQF to maintain endorsement of these measures. He is currently the Chair of the PCPI Behavioral Health TEP.

He has been honored by his colleagues for clinical and leadership excellence, receiving numerous awards including the Wisconsin Alumni Association “Forward Under 40” award, the Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD, Young Physician Leadership Award from the WMS Foundation, an Early Career Leadership Award by the AMA Foundation and the AMA Women's Physician Congress Mentor Award. He has been named a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Halverson was selected for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® 2015-2020.

Dr. Halverson serves on the APA's Council on Health Systems Finance and has served in the past on the Council on Quality of Psychiatric Care. A past president of the Wisconsin Medical Society (WMS) and Wisconsin Psychiatric Association, he is a member of the World Psychiatric Association, the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Psychiatric Association, the American College of Psychiatrists, the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Dane County and Waukesha County medical societies and is the physician member of the combined City of Madison/Dane County Board of Health. He is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Medical Society. He is also Chair of the AMA Section Council on Psychiatry.

Dr. Halverson has a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and completed an internal medicine internship at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Minnesota, and a residency in general adult psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
