Janelle Springer has had a varied career in the geology field. In 2007, they were a Geology Laboratory Assistant at the University of Calgary, and an instructor at the Mini University Ph.D. Summer Camp. In 2010, they were a Head Teaching Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the University of Canterbury. In 2012, they were a Geologist at Vermilion Energy. In 2016, they were a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary. In 2017, they were an Adoptions Specialist at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society. Finally, in 2018, they were a General Manager, Canada, Canada Country Manager, Australian Geotechnical Analyst and Sales, and Sr Technical Analyst at ROGII.

Janelle Springer attended the University of Calgary from 2004 to 2009, where they obtained a BSc (Hons) in Geology. Janelle then continued their studies at the University of Canterbury from 2010 to 2012, where they received an MSc in Geology (Sedimentology and Micropaleontology).
