Dan Swanson has extensive work experience in various roles related to facilities management and environmental, health, and safety. Dan started their career as a Plant Manager at Pacific Wood Fibers in 1979, where they were in charge of all aspects of plant operations. Dan then worked at several companies in roles such as Production Supervisor, Maintenance Technician, and Production Manager before joining Rogue Valley Microdevices, Inc. in 2012 as the Facilities & Operations Manager. At Rogue Valley Microdevices, they oversaw maintenance and repairs, managed environmental, health, and safety programs, and liaised with city, county, and state officials. Prior to that, they were the Owner-President at Unpqua Energy, Inc. where they managed all aspects of the company's environmental, health, and safety programs and designed and built hydrogen generators. Dan also worked as an EHS Director/Facilities & Maintenance Manager at CDS Publications where they managed programs and supervised building and equipment maintenance and repairs. Dan has experience in managing production and maintenance crews, installing and repairing electrical systems, and coordinating production with other departments.

Dan Swanson has a diverse education history. Dan started by attending Sunset High School from 1966 to 1970, where they focused on subjects such as automechanics, metalshop, and electronics, earning a High School Diploma. After completing high school, Dan joined the U.S. Navy in 1971, where they furthered their knowledge in electronics during their six years of service.

Following their time in the Navy, Dan pursued an apprenticeship in manufacturing plant electrician, obtaining a State of Oregon License from the Joint Apprenticeship Training Council in Jackson County from 1981 to 1985. During this period, they also attended Rogue Community College in Medford, Oregon, specializing in electrician training.

Later, Dan enrolled in Rogue Community College in 1988, where they studied gas and arc welding, as well as engineering and design of hydraulics and pneumatics. Additionally, they completed a 2-year apprenticeship in High Pressure Boiler Operations & Repairs, earning a degree from the State of Oregon Journeyman Boiler Operator program from 1987 to 1989.

Overall, Dan Swanson's education journey includes a High School Diploma with a focus on automechanics, metalshop, and electronics, followed by military training in electronics during their time in the U.S. Navy. Dan then pursued an apprenticeship in manufacturing plant electrician and received a State of Oregon License.
