Chief Design Engineer at Rolls-Royce SMR

Stephen Young has a diverse work experience in civil and structural engineering. Stephen is currently the Chief Design Engineer at Rolls-Royce SMR. Prior to this, they worked as a Programme Engineering Manager at Amentum from 2019 to 2022. Stephen also served as a CSA Responsible Engineer at NuGeneration Limited from 2016 to 2019, where they managed the Civil, Structural, and Architectural engineering team for the development of the Moorside Nuclear Power Station. Stephen worked as a Civil Structural & Architectural Lead at Amec Foster Wheeler from 2011 to 2015, where they oversaw a portfolio of civil engineering new build projects. Stephen was an Independent Civil / Structural Engineer at Sanderson Watts / Costain from 2010 to 2011, where they managed a section of work on a nuclear reprocessing facility. Stephen also worked as an Independent Structural Engineer at Jacobs from 2008 to 2010 and at Halcrow from 2007 to 2008, where they provided civil / structural engineering design and coordination services for various projects. Stephen started their career as a Structural Engineer at Earth Tech Engineering Pty Ltd (Australia) from 2005 to 2007, gaining experience in designing major building materials. Stephen also worked as a Structural Engineer at SKM from 2002 to 2005, where they focused on designing steelwork, concrete structures, timber, and masonry.

Stephen Young obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Salford, where they studied from 2019 to 2021. Stephen also holds a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. Additionally, Stephen Young has obtained a certification in CEng MIStructE from the Institution of Structural Engineers.
