Matthew Umles

Matthew Umles has a range of work experience in various engineering roles. Matthew currently works as the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Romeo Power, Inc., where they lead and oversees the transition of production designs for high voltage EV battery modules and packs. Matthew is responsible for managing a team of up to 20 engineers and works closely with other teams to incorporate analysis feedback into designs.

Prior to their current role, Umles worked as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Romeo Power, Inc., where they managed a team of 11 members during a company transition. Matthew pursued changes to the manufacturing line to meet SOP release for PPAP battery for customer deliveries and built a maintenance team to service all equipment for multiple production lines.

Umles also has experience working as a Manager of Battery Module Design at Romeo Power, Inc., as a Senior Project Engineer at Rain Bird Corporation, as a Project Engineer at Rain Bird Corporation, as a Senior Design Engineer at Grayhill, as a Mechanical Engineer at Inventus Power, and as a Project Manager/Mechanical Engineer at Reflexx Robotics.

During their roles at these companies, Umles led teams, supervised vendor development, coordinated project schedules, and designed innovative products. Their experience includes leading the design of ultrasound control panels, creating a conformable wearable battery for soldiers, and designing unmanned ground vehicles.

Umles began their engineering career as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at FATA Hunter USA, Inc. in 2006.

Matthew Umles attended the University of California, Riverside from 2003 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
