Kyle Sweeney is a Senior Climate Analyst at Root Capital. Kyle has over five years of experience in the disaster risk reduction field. Kyle has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Davis.

Kyle began their career as a Disaster Risk Assistant at UNDP in January 2017. In this role, they assisted in the development and implementation of disaster risk reduction programs. Kyle also conducted research on the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable communities. Kyle left UNDP in August 2017 to join Shipe Consulting Group as a Project Manager. In this role, they oversaw the development and implementation of disaster risk reduction projects. Kyle also coordinated with government agencies and NGOs to ensure the successful completion of these projects. Kyle left Shipe Consulting Group in September 2018 to join Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI) as a Research Consultant. In this role, they led a team of experts to curate content, narratives, and maps to communicate various aspects of disaster risk to general audiences. Kyle also designed and led the creation of Risk Profiles for the Algiers, Quezon City, and Pasig City. Kyle left EMI in May 2020 to join Forerunner as a Research Specialist. In this role, they led the development of two whitepapers on current climate change funding sources in the United States. Kyle also interviewed various stakeholders to analyze coastal change issues and write blog posts. Kyle left Forerunner in April 2020 to join Wharton Risk Center as a Senior Research Coordinator. In this role, they designed and distributed surveys to document flooding damages to infrastructure and households. Kyle also analyzed FEMA, HUD, and SBA data to inform Primers and Issue Briefs on disaster aid and Nature Based Solutions.

Kyle Sweeney holds a Master of Science from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna in Environmental Assessment and Management, as well as a Bachelor of Science from University of Massachusetts Amherst.
