Ross Valley Sanitary District
Mary Sylla, JD, MPH, is an experienced public health and legal professional with a strong background in health policy and advocacy. Currently serving as an Elected Director at Ross Valley Sanitary District since July 2012, Mary secured re-election in 2016 after winning the initial campaign against the incumbent. Past positions include Director of Overdose Prevention Policy at the National Harm Reduction Coalition and Senior Staff Attorney at the Drug Policy Alliance, where Mary advocated for increased access to addiction treatment in correctional facilities and extended syringe access in California. Previously, Mary held various roles in legal and health organizations, including Staff Attorney at Rubicon Programs and Director of Policy, Advocacy and Research at Center for Health Justice. Ross Valley Sanitary District
Established on May 27, 1899, Ross Valley Sanitary District is California's oldest district. The District serves Fairfax, San Anselmo, Ross, Larkspur, Bon Air, Sleepy Hollow, Kentfield, Kent Woodlands, Oak Manor, and Greenbrae. The District operates and maintains approximately 200 miles of collection sewer lines and 19 pump stations, collecting, pumping, and transporting approximately four million gallons of wastewater per day to Central Marin Sanitation Agency for treatment. Approximately 60% of the District's collection system was installed before 1955. The District's mission is to provide our customers with high-quality wastewater collection service through a system with no avoidable sanitary sewer overflows at the lowest sustainable cost to protect public health and the environment.
