Round Top Festival Institute
John Kitzman is a distinguished trombonist with extensive experience in orchestral and educational settings. Having served as the Principal Trombone for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1972 until retirement in September 2015, Kitzman continues to impart knowledge as an Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Southern Methodist University. In addition to teaching, Kitzman is an active trombonist with the Dallas Symphony Brass Quintet and serves on the faculty at the Round Top Festival Institute. With a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Michigan, Kitzman has been a member of the International Trombone Association since 1980, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the music profession.

Located in historic Round Top, Texas, The James Dick Foundation for the Performing Arts and its sole project, the Round Top Festival Institute, were founded in 1971 by world-renowned concert pianist James Dick. Begun with a handful of gifted young pianists in rented space on the town square, the project is now an internationally acclaimed European-styled music institute for aspiring young musicians and distinguished faculty.
