Luma Bashmi

Luma Bashmi is a dedicated professional in the field of psychology and mental health, currently serving as a Lecturer in Health Psychology at RCSI Bahrain and actively participating as a member of the RCSI Research Ethics Committee. As the Co-Founder and Director of Elaa Beirut, Luma has contributed significantly to providing free mental healthcare to individuals affected by the Beirut port explosion and other traumatic events, overseeing over 180 therapy sessions since the organization's inception. Luma's previous roles include notable positions such as Chairperson of the Institutional Review Board at King Hamad University Hospital and Research Associate at Amydis, Inc., focusing on amyloid-associated diseases. Educational background includes a PhD in Psychiatry from the University of Cambridge and a Master's degree in Psychological Research from California State University, Long Beach, among other academic credentials. Luma's varied experiences across research, academia, and non-profit management highlight a strong commitment to advancing mental health and research ethics.
