Niall Connell is an accomplished veterinary professional with extensive experience in leadership and accreditation roles. Since July 2013, Niall has served as Chair of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Fellowship Board and has participated in various accreditation panels for veterinary schools in the UK and Ireland. Niall's contributions extend to serving as Treasurer and Vice-chair of several committees, including the Diversity and Inclusion Group, Education Committee, and various taskforces addressing contemporary challenges in the veterinary profession. Additionally, Niall is a Trustee for the Scottish SPCA and a Clinical & Professional Skills Instructor at the University of Glasgow. Previously, Niall held senior positions in veterinary practices and has been involved in health promotion and clinical education. Niall holds a BVMS degree from the University of Glasgow and has dedicated many years to advancing the veterinary profession through education and leadership.

We aim to enhance society through improved animal health and welfare. We do this by setting, upholding and advancing the educational, ethical and clinical standards of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses. As a statutory regulator we are responsible under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 for keeping the Register of Veterinary Surgeons eligible to practise in the UK, setting standards for veterinary education and regulating the professional conduct of veterinary surgeons. We also exercise powers under our Royal Charter to award Fellowships, Diplomas and Certificates to veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and others.
