David Matheson

David Matheson is a Principal and Co-Chief Investment Officer at RPIA alongside Peter Metcalfe. He leads the portfolio management team and is accountable for the firm’s investment grade strategies. Prior to being appointed as Co-CIO, David was the Head of Portfolio Management. David joined the firm at its foundation as a Portfolio Manager, coming from a leading Canadian investment bank where he was a published investment strategist.

David has been instrumental in building the business and the portfolios’ performance track record. David has been responsible for numerous product launches, including RPIA’s leading institutional offerings and our retail products (RP Strategic Income Plus Fund and RP Alternative Global Bond Fund). He also spearheaded the quantitative and systematic investing approach on the Portfolio Management team. He established the RPIA Social Committee and is a passionate member of the ESG and Allyship Committees, where he actively champions fostering a great culture and a positive impact on the community.

David is an active member of the community and cares deeply about volunteering and giving back. He has chaired Covenant House’s annual Champion’s Sleep Out fundraiser and has volunteered as a mentor and a sports supervisor at the Toronto Youth Homeless Shelter. He holds tremendous value for mentorship and volunteers in a leadership capacity with the Fixed Income Committee at the Toronto CFA Society, where he has been a mentor for young professionals in addition to the mentorship he does at his Toronto-based high school alma mater’s mentorship program.

David is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Schulich School of Business and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Toronto.
