Dinesh Rangana Gurusinghe

Senior Simulation Engineer at RTDS Technologies Inc.

Dinesh Rangana Gurusinghe has worked in various roles and companies throughout their career. Dinesh Rangana began as a Design Engineer at Cruickshanks Ceylon (now Balfour Beatty Engineering Services) in 2003 and later joined the Ceylon Electricity Board as an Electrical Engineer in 2005. In 2007, they became a Visiting Lecturer at The Open University of Sri Lanka and later at the University of Kelaniya in 2010.

In 2008, Gurusinghe worked as a Research Assistant at the Asian Institute of Technology, where they conducted research leading to an M. Eng. degree. During this time, they developed an optimization-based approach for determining the saddle-node bifurcation point and applied it to analyze voltage stability. Dinesh Rangana also compared this approach to other analytical methods.

From 2010 to 2011, they served as a Visiting Lecturer and Consultant at The Open University of Sri Lanka. In 2011, they joined ERLPhase Power Technologies Ltd. as an intern in R&D, where they conducted characterization and evaluation tests on phasor measurement units (PMUs) and implemented new performance class filters.

Gurusinghe then joined the University of Manitoba in 2011 as a Research Assistant, working on research leading to a Ph.D. During this time, they introduced a new test procedure and filter for PMUs to enhance their dynamic performance. Dinesh Rangana also reviewed IEEE standards in the field.

Since 2015, Gurusinghe has been working at RTDS Technologies Inc., starting as a Simulation Specialist and progressing to the roles of Simulation Engineer and Senior Simulation Engineer.

Dinesh Rangana Gurusinghe holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems from the University of Manitoba. Dinesh Rangana completed their Ph.D. from 2011 to 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Energy - Electric Power Systems Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, where they studied from 2008 to 2010.

Dinesh also holds a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in Industrial Engineering from the Open University of Sri Lanka, which they completed between 2005 and 2010. Dinesh Rangana obtained their Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc. Eng. hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, where they studied from 1998 to 2003. Furthermore, they earned a Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree from the University of Colombo School of Computing, studying from 2002 to 2006.

In addition to their academic achievements, Dinesh Gurusinghe has obtained several certifications. Dinesh Rangana holds the title of Senior Member from IEEE, which they obtained in February 2020. Dinesh Rangana is also an Engineering Practitioner certified by the Engineering Council, Sri Lanka, achieved in August 2018. Furthermore, they are a Registered Professional Engineer accredited by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba since November 2017.

Dinesh Gurusinghe has also obtained a Certification in Higher Education Teaching (CHET) from the University of Manitoba in April 2014. Finally, they are a Chartered Engineer recognized by The Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), a certification they received in February 2011.
