Don Cox

CISO Advisor at rThreat

Don Cox has over 20 years of experience in information technology and security. Don is currently the CISO Advisor at rThreat, a cybersecurity firm. Prior to that, they were the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Mednax, a national medical group. In that role, they led all cybersecurity activities for several lines of business, including maternal-fetal & neonatal medicine, women's health, pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiology, radiology, telehealth/radiology, and medical billing/revenue cycle management.

Cox has been instrumental in business and technology partnerships to redesign and achieve business needs by implementing comprehensive enterprise IT programs. These programs modernized infrastructure, software development capabilities, processes, and culture of cyber awareness. Don's responsibilities have included managing security operations, engineering, architecture, risk and compliance, identity access management, BCP/DR, and physical security. The security teams they have overseen have supported transformation to the cloud XaaS capabilities, SecDevOps, and DevSecOps. This has been accomplished by implementing XDR, UEBA, SOAR, AppSec, and CASB solutions. Don has also overseen several compliance programs, including HITRUST, HIPAA, SOX, PCI/DSS, SOC 2 Type 1 & 2.

During their tenure at Mednax, Cox led several transformation projects, including a move to Oracle ERP, public and private cloud migration, data warehouse consolidation, outsourced security operations, and data center consolidation.
