Duncan Davidson

Duncan Davidson serves as the VP Developer Productivity at Shopify since March 2021 and holds the title of Distinguished Engineer and Technology Advisor to the CEO. Currently a board member of the Rails Foundation and a member emeritus of the Apache Software Foundation, Davidson is recognized as the original author of Tomcat and Ant. Previous roles include CTO in Residence and Principal Technology Advisor at Microsoft, where Davidson contributed to enhancing the startup ecosystem. Davidson’s extensive experience also includes positions at 6Wunderkinder, TED Conferences as a lead stage photographer, and significant contributions to Sun Microsystems and CollabNet. Davidson's freelance photography work and consulting in web server technologies further illustrate a diverse skill set spanning technology and the arts.
