Kate Medicus has over 20 years of experience in optical metrology and engineering, having worked in various roles at companies such as Ruda Optical, Optimax Systems Inc., and Mitutoyo Europe. Kate has led and managed teams, applied for and managed multiple grants, developed patented measurement algorithms, and integrated novel research tools onto existing platforms. Kate has also conducted research at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where they led a project researching high-speed machining and gained practical experience with machining, diamond turning, and tool dynamics.
Kate Medicus holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Insitute and State University - Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, which they earned in 2000. Kate then earned their Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2003. After that, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, which they completed in 2006.
