Rod E. Williamson is the Director supporting Clark Hill’s environment, energy, government contracts and regulation legal practices. Rod is responsible for the strategic planning, business development, and daily operations of these practice areas. Rod also leads the firm’s Energy Management Consulting group. Rod provides unbiased energy management for large electric and natural gas customers.
He structures and negotiates complex natural gas and electricity supply contracts, manages utility natural gas and electricity interconnections, implements demand response programs, and develops energy risk management programs for large energy users.
Rod has significant experience managing industrial customer interventions in natural gas and electricity regulatory proceedings at state public service commissions, developing state and federal energy policy recommendations, testifying before state legislative energy committees, and drafting state energy legislation.
Rod advises large energy user clients helping them evaluate and navigate complex energy issues to take advantage of new technologies, markets, and opportunities to better meet their business goals. Rod, along with Clark Hill’s energy practice team, help clients obtain lower energy prices while meeting sustainability and carbon footprint goals and limiting risk, by negotiating electricity and natural gas supply agreements in states with competitive energy markets, negotiating special contracts with regulated utilities, and implementing on-site generation, backup generation, and emerging technologies such as battery storage and micro-grid designs.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, Rod was the Global Energy Category Manager for Dow Corning Corporation where he was responsible for setting energy supply strategy and implementing a global energy category management process. Rod led a team of local energy category managers in Europe, Asia, and Brazil and had direct responsibility for establishing business relationships with energy suppliers as well as government and regulatory agencies.
Rod currently serves as the Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Businesses Advocating for Tariff Equity (ABATE) and the Industrial Energy Consumers of Pennsylvania (IECPA) providing strategic direction and energy expertise for these groups consisting of the large industrial energy consumers. Additionally, Rod has served as a board member of KIUC, the Kentucky Industrial Utility Customer group, and AIEC, the Alabama Industrial Energy Customer group, and was a member of TVIC, the Tennessee Valley Industrial Committee.
