Joyce Hinkson has a diverse range of work experience in the education field. Joyce started their career in 1983 at the Washington Unified School District, where they held various roles including Administrator, Testing Coordinator, Reading/Language Arts Specialist, and Classroom Teacher. In 1990, they became an Adjunct Professor of Teacher Education at National University, a position they held until 1997. From 1995 to 2001, they also worked as an Adjunct Professor in the English Department at American River College. In 1998, they joined the California Department of Education as an Education Technology Consultant, responsible for administering federal technology grant programs and providing training and support to grant recipients. In 2003, they became an Adjunct Professor of Teacher Education at Chapman University, a role they held until 2005. Finally, in 2012, they joined the Sacramento County Office of Education as the Director of Outreach and Technical Assistance Network (OTAN).
