Senior Director Learning & Staff Development at Safe Horizon

Ashleigh Washington has a diverse range of work experience. Ashleigh started their career in 2006 as a Client Resource Liaison at Santa Maria Hostel. Later, in 2008, they worked as a Workforce Development Coordinator at Community Impact at Columbia University. In the same year, they also became a Program Manager at Harlem United, where they managed a $2 million federally funded housing program and led a team of client managers. Ashleigh achieved top-ranking results and implemented key performance indicators and report standards that were later adopted as the standard for nonprofit contracts. In 2011, Ashleigh joined the NYC Department of Education as the Director of Program Strategy and held the position until 2017. During this time, they contributed to the development of operating standards and technology tools. In 2017, they became a Senior Director of Learning & Staff Development at Safe Horizon, a position they currently hold. Recently, in 2020, Ashleigh began working as an Adjunct Professor at The City University of New York.

Ashleigh Washington is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Social Welfare with a specialization in Technology in the Public Sector at The City University of New York. Ashleigh completed their Master of Science (MS) in Social Work with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Columbia University in 2009. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Social Work from Prairie View A&M University in 2007. Ashleigh also holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Columbia University. In terms of additional certifications, they completed the Interactive Technology & Pedagogy program at The City University of New York in 2022 and the Senior Leaders Program for Nonprofit Professionals at Columbia Business School in 2019.
