Asaf Shabtai

Co-Founder & Chief Research Officer at SAFEMIND Cybersecurity

Asaf Shabtai has an extensive work experience in the field of cybersecurity and information systems. Asaf currently holds the position of a Full Professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where they previously served as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. Asaf has been associated with the university since 2012.

In addition to their academic roles, Shabtai is also a Co-Founder & Chief Research Officer at SAFEMIND Cybersecurity, starting from 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Consultant at Intelici in 2016.

Before transitioning to academia, Shabtai served as a Senior researcher and project manager at Deutsche Telekom Research Labs since 2005. In this role, they managed an R&D team and was involved in designing, developing, and evaluating innovative solutions in the information systems security domain.

Shabtai's work experience also includes their service in the Israel Defense Forces, where they held the rank of Major in Information Systems Technologies from 1998 to 2005.

Asaf Shabtai has a PhD in Data Mining and Information Security from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Prior to their PhD, they obtained a Master's degree in Information Systems from the same university. In terms of additional certifications, they earned a CISSP certification from the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) in January 2009 and a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification from EC-Council in 2006.
