Lao Saal

Founder & Chief Operating Officer at SAGA Diagnostics

Lao Saal started their career in 1996 as a Network Analyst at Internet Interstate (VERIO). In 1998, they joined the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) as a Research Assistant. In 2008, they moved to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a Clinical Postdoctoral Research. In 2009, they were appointed as an Associate Professor at Lund University. In 2016, they founded SAGA Diagnostics AB and served as the Founder & CEO for 5+ years, helping grow the company from 2 persons to 18 persons, raising over 16 MEUR from Seed through Series A, and generating strong market traction. Lao then moved to the #2 spot, COO, and supported the CEO and wider SAGA team and their Board to deliver on their vision to make SAGA's technologies available to make a difference and improve patients' lives.

Lao Saal obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in American Theirtory (United States) from the University of Maryland College Park between 1994 and 1999. Lao then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), with Distinction, in Molecular Biology from Columbia University between 2000 and 2007. Finally, Lao Saal obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons between 2000 and 2008.
