Johan Verjans

Johan Verjans is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director (Health) at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) at the University of Adelaide, recognized as a Future Industry Making Fellow. Verjans has extensive experience in cardiovascular imaging and machine learning, serving as a Consultant Cardiologist at Jones Radiology and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and as a Cardiologist at the Adelaide Specialist Clinic. Additionally, Verjans holds a leadership position in artificial intelligence at SAHMRI and contributes to academic publishing as an Associate Editor for the Netherlands Heart Journal. Past roles include Assistant Professor at UMC Utrecht and Chairman of Young@Heart, focusing on mentorship and professional development for early-career researchers in cardiology. Verjans completed medical education at Maastricht University, obtaining MD and PhD degrees, and has a background in molecular imaging and medical school.
