Bob Phillips

Bob Phillips has a diverse and extensive work experience in healthcare leadership and management. Bob currently holds the position of Vice President, Clinical Services at Saint Francis Health System. Prior to that, they served as the Executive Director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham- School of Medicine, where they led the development and operations of the GuideSafe™ Testing program. This program provided COVID-19 screening testing services to colleges in Alabama and involved creating a statewide testing network.

Before their role at UAB, Bob Phillips worked at Brookwood Baptist Health, where they held several leadership positions. Bob served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at both Walker Baptist Medical Center and Shelby Baptist Medical Center. During their tenure, they successfully managed financial performance, patient volumes, and quality of care. Bob played a critical role in the Tenet-Baptist merger and implemented new protocols and systems during integration. Bob also developed strategic responses to external challenges such as the opening of competitor hospitals, implemented operational improvements, and led successful renovations.

Prior to their CEO roles, Bob Phillips worked as the President of Walker Baptist Medical Center, where they turned around the facility from a net loss to a net income. Bob oversaw the installation of an electronic medical record system and managed the acquisition of a majority stake in a local ambulatory surgery center. Before that, they held various leadership positions at Baptist Health Centers, including Executive Director of Operations, Senior Director of Patient Financial Services, and Director of Operations.

Earlier in their career, Bob Phillips worked at North Mississippi Health Services as a Regional Manager and Administrative Resident. Overall, their work experience showcases a strong track record of strategic leadership, operational excellence, and successful organizational turnarounds in the healthcare industry.

Bob Phillips has a Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which they obtained from 1995 to 1998. Bob also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same university, which they completed between 1995 and 1997. Prior to this, they earned a Bachelor of Arts in American History from Washington and Lee University from 1993 to 1995. Bob's education began in 1991 at Brown University, where they pursued General Studies.
