Karen Dematteo

Karen DeMatteo has a diverse work experience in the field of environmental studies and biology. Karen started their career as a Lecturer in the Environmental Studies Program at Washington University in St. Louis in August 2008 and continued in this role until July 2019. During this time, they also served as a Research Scientist in the Department of Biology starting in May 2014. In January 2013, Karen joined the University of Missouri - St. Louis as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology. Additionally, they worked as an Adjunct Research Associate in the WildCare Institute at the Saint Louis Zoo starting in 2011. Currently, Karen holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Environmental Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, which they began in August 2019.

Karen DeMatteo completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Connecticut from 1987 to 1991. Karen then pursued their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming, which they completed from 1992 to 1995. From 1998 to 2004, Karen attended Saint Louis University, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics.
