Sharon Deem

Director, Saint Louis Zoo Institute For Conservation Medicine at SAINT LOUIS ZOO

Sharon Deem is the Director of the Saint Louis Zoo Institute for Conservation Medicine, which focuses on research related to wildlife, public health, and sustainable ecosystems. With a background in Veterinary Epidemiology, Sharon has conducted research on health issues of avian species in the Galapagos Islands and worked on wildlife and human health projects in Gabon, Central Africa. Sharon has also provided veterinary care for collection animals at various facilities in New York City and the Rock Creek National Zoo. Sharon holds a DACZM in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine from the University of Florida, a PhD in Veterinary Medicine from the same university, a D.V.M in Veterinary Medicine from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech.
