Director Of Jazz And Commercial Music at Saint Xavier University

Shawn Salmon has extensive experience in the field of jazz and music education. Shawn began their career as a Graduate Assistant in Jazz Studies at Ball State University in 2007 and continued in this role until 2010. Following this, they served as an Adjunct Instructor and Jazz Band Director at DePauw University from 2010 to 2012. In 2013, they joined Saint Xavier University as the Director of Jazz and Commercial Music, where they teach guitar and jazz studies courses, leads various music ensembles, and oversees the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, Commercial Music Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble. In addition to their university positions, Shawn Salmon also works as a freelance guitarist and bandleader, leading their own jazz groups and collaborating with other ensembles.

Shawn Salmon obtained a Doctor of Arts degree in Guitar Performance/Theory and Composition from Ball State University, where they studied from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Music in Jazz/Jazz Studies from DePaul University, where they attended from 2000 to 2002.
