Hiroyuki Ota

Hiroyuki Ota is an experienced applied research engineer currently working at Sakana AI since May 2025. Previously, Ota served as an engineering manager at FLYWHEEL Inc. from July 2018 to May 2025, where leadership was demonstrated in the development of the Conata Data Platform, facilitating productivity for 30 engineers across three projects. As general manager of product development, Ota also engineered an order automation system for TSUTAYA Bookstore Network, optimizing daily book orders for 800 stores through processing 70 million records. Prior to this, Ota was a software engineer at Google from April 2013 to June 2018, leading a small team to enhance user engagement for Google Maps through various features, which improved user-generated content contributions significantly. Ota completed a master's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in information science at The University of Tokyo.
