Tom Cronin has a strong background in hardware engineering, with extensive experience in designing and building augmented reality products. Tom has held various roles in different companies, including Salience Labs, Graphcore, DAQRI, BAE Systems, and BMW Group UK Limited.
At Salience Labs, Tom currently serves as the Head of Hardware, a position they have held since April 2023.
Prior to joining Salience Labs, Tom worked at Graphcore as a Hardware Programme Manager from February 2020 to April 2023. In this role, they collaborated with the engineering team to design and build exascale AI systems and managed the delivery of various systems.
Before their time at Graphcore, Tom held multiple positions at DAQRI. Tom first served as the Chief Electronic Engineer from January to July 2016, then as the Director of Electronic Engineering from July 2016 to July 2018, and finally as the Senior Director of Electronic Engineering from July 2018 to February 2020. In these roles, they led a cross-discipline, cross-continent engineering team in designing and building augmented reality products for commercial, industrial, and automotive markets. Tom also gained extensive experience in Intel processor-based systems and the full product lifecycle development.
Prior to joining DAQRI, Tom worked at BAE Systems, where they held various roles. Tom started as a Hardware Engineer from September 2009 to February 2013, then advanced to the position of Senior Hardware Engineer from March 2013 to August 2015, and finally as a Principal Hardware Engineer from August 2015 to December 2015. During their time at BAE Systems, Tom was responsible for the design and development of hardware components for augmented reality displays and had a particular expertise in Texas Instrument DLP/DMD technology and high-speed FPGA design. Tom also played a significant role in improving hardware design processes, promoting the quality of processes, design re-use, and cost reduction.
Tom's career in the electronics industry began with an Electronics Industrial Placement at BMW Group UK Limited from July 2007 to July 2008.
