Donnie Cates has an extensive work experience in the restaurant industry. Donnie started their career as a General Manager at CKE Restaurants, Inc. in 1987 and served in that role until 2002. In 2012, they joined Bojangles' Restaurants, Inc. as an Area Director. In 2018, they became the Director of Operations at Salsarita's Fresh Mexican Grill and further took on the role of Multi-Concept Director of Operations at Salsarita's Fresh Mexican Grill and Rigsby's Smoked Burgers and Wings in 2019.
Donnie Cates attended Spartanburg Community College from 1993 to 1994, where they studied Business Administration and Management, General. Donnie did not obtain a degree during this time. In 2015, they obtained a certification as a Serv-Safe instructor and Proctor from the National Restaurant Association.
