Laura Briefer

Laura Briefer is an experienced public administration professional currently serving as an Associate Instructor in the Master of Public Administration Program at the University of Utah since December 2024. With a career spanning over two decades at the Salt Lake City Corporation, Laura has held multiple leadership roles including Director of the Department of Public Utilities, where responsibilities encompass budgeting, human resource management, and policy development. Previous positions include Deputy Director, Water Resources Manager, and Special Projects Manager within the same department, focusing on water conservation, climate change, and environmental compliance. Earlier work experience includes serving as Assistant Administrator for the Town of Alta and Executive Director of Friends of Alta, in addition to a role as Environmental Specialist at PES Environmental, Inc. Laura holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara.
