Matt McLain has a diverse work experience in the library services field. Matt began their career at the Salt Lake City Public Library in 2006, where they served as the Assistant Manager of the Sprague Library before being promoted to Manager of the Children's Library. During this time, they focused on creating an environment for staff to thrive, facilitating their leadership development, and providing reference services. In 2010, Matt joined the Utah State Library as the Youth Services Coordinator, where they developed relationships with librarians statewide, coordinated the Collaborative Summer Library Program, and organized early literacy training for librarians. In 2013, they joined the Salt Lake County Library Services as the South Jordan Branch Manager, where they prioritized creating a customer-friendly atmosphere, establishing relationships with patrons and community partners, and applying branch strategy to the budget. After their successful stint at South Jordan, they became the Kearns Branch Manager until 2018. Currently, they serve as the Associate Director for Community Engagement at the Salt Lake County Library.
Matt McLain began their education in 1997 at the University of Utah, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with a focus on Electronic Journalism. Matt completed their undergraduate studies in 2002. Afterward, they enrolled in the Syracuse University School of Information Studies, specializing in Library and Information Science. Matt obtained a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree from Syracuse University in 2005.
