Hubert Martens

Hubert Martens has an extensive work experience spanning over several industries. Hubert began their career as a PhD student at Leiden University, where they conducted research on charge-transport in polymers and metal-insulator transitions. Hubert then joined Philips Research, where they worked as a Research Scientist, contributing to the development of new optical disc formats and storage technologies. Martens also played a key role in inventing the double-layer DVD+R disc technology and contributed to the development of Blu-ray discs. Hubert later joined Philips Electronics Netherlands as a Project Leader, leading the development of novel double-layer DVD+R disc technology and managing international collaborations.

In 2005, Martens transitioned to the field of neurostimulation and neural engineering, joining Philips Research as a Senior Scientist. Hubert focused on industrial research and the development of deep brain stimulation technologies. Martens also worked as a Project Leader and Senior Scientist at Philips Research, where they developed solutions for functional neurosurgery and contributed to the company's image-guided therapies business strategies.

In 2011, Martens co-founded Sapiens Steering Brain Stimulation, a company specializing in deep brain stimulation products. Hubert served as the Vice President of Product Development, driving the development of Sapiens' product portfolio. The company was later acquired by Medtronic in 2014.

Martens then joined Medtronic as the Director of Product Development, where they oversaw the development of medical devices. After leaving Medtronic, they founded Sirius Medical Systems in 2017, serving as the CEO and Founder. In that role, Martens led the company's operations and strategic direction until December 2020.

In August 2017, Martens also became the CEO and Founder of Salvia BioElectronics, where they focus on developing innovative bioelectronic medicine technology.

Overall, Martens has a diverse background with expertise in various fields, ranging from optical disc technology to neurostimulation and product development.

Hubert Martens completed their secondary education between 1986 and 1992 at RSG 't Rijks Bergen op Zoom. Hubert then enrolled at Leiden University in 1992 and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Physics in 1996. Hubert continued their studies at Leiden University and completed a PhD in Physics between 1996 and 2000.
