Executive Director Information Technology at Samish Indian Nation

JR Walters has a diverse work experience in the field of information technology. JR started their career at Western Washington University as a Helpdesk Technician in 2004. JR then moved on to work at Horizon AVS as a Systems Integrator from 2011 to 2013. After that, they joined the Samish Indian Nation where they held various roles. JR started as a Network Technician from 2013 to 2014, where they streamlined desktop deployments, policy configurations, and network updates. JR then became the Information Technology Manager from 2014 to 2016, responsible for expanding the IT department and supervising the staff. From 2016 to present, they have been the IT Director, overseeing the design and implementation of the Tribe's IT infrastructure and focusing on network security and resiliency. Recently, they have been appointed as the Executive Director of Information Technology for the Samish Indian Nation, starting in July 2022.

JR Walters has a Bachelor's degree from Western Washington University. The dates of attendance for this degree are not provided. Prior to attending university, JR also completed high school at Anacortes High School from the year 2000 to 2003. In addition to these educational qualifications, JR has obtained a certification in CompTIA Server from CompTIA in April 2015.

The Samish Indian Nation is the successor to the large and powerful Samish Nation, a signatory to the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855.
