JJ Velasquez is an experienced journalist and editor currently serving as the Managing Editor of Audience at the San Antonio Express-News since October 2022, after holding the position of Deputy Editor, Audience. Previous roles include Audience Analyst at San Antonio Report, and a Columnist at Advance Local. As Editorial Project Manager and Audience Engagement Editor at San Antonio Report, JJ managed content operations and engagement strategies. Experience also includes positions at Community Impact Newspaper as an Editor, covering local issues and managing production schedules, as well as reporting roles at Laredo Morning Times, Victoria Advocate, and The Daily Sentinel. JJ holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and a Certificate in Full-Stack Web Development from the same institution.
