Molly Smith

Molly Smith is an experienced journalist specializing in education and public safety reporting. Currently serving as a City Hall Reporter for the San Antonio Express-News since January 2023, Molly previously worked at El Paso Matters from October 2020 to January 2023, focusing on K-12 education and state legislative coverage while rising to the role of Assistant Editor. Prior experience includes reporting on education for the El Paso Times, where an investigation into a superintendent altercation earned third place in Gannett’s quarterly awards, and covering public safety at The Monitor. Molly began a career in journalism with an assistant web editor role at KUT Public Media after an internship. Educational credentials include a Master of Global Policy Studies from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, a Master’s in Journalism from the Moody College of Communication, and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Whitman College.
